On the Home Front
Remixing geographies of home and the frontline, images from the news project the dark matter of
the American Dream back into domestic space.
This work stands between the spheres of war
reenactment, photojournalism, and surrealist collage. Each image reconstitutes
an individual’s face, the direction of a gun, or a gaze, a place. I am
searching for a way to carry events into the present and dump them at the
viewer’s feet.
I am indebted to the artist, Martha
Rosler and generations of photojournalists whose work I am not so much
appropriating as acknowledging as a powerful constituent of the world.
